Remove the bolt cover.
CAUTION: Do not clean filter in gasoline
or other flammable solvent to avoid creating
a fire hazard or producing harmful evapora-
tive emissions.
Loosen and remove the 2 muffler bolts.
Removethe muffler,muffler gasket,out-
let guide and backplate. Notice the ori-
entationofthesepartsforreassembling.

engine oil or motoroil (SAE30).

Remove spark arresting screen.
Clean the spark arresting screen with a
wire brush. Replace screen if any wires
arebrokenor screen is blocked after clea-
ning.
Reinstall spark arresting screen.
Reinstall outletcover and2screws. En-
sure outlet cover and both screws are
reinstalled correctly (see illustrations) to
prevent damage to the saw. The ex-
haust outlet must face the chain brake
(bar side) of the saw.
Squeeze excess oil from filter.
Reinstall air filter.

Reinstall cylinder cover and 3 screws.

WARNING:
The muffler on this

As the unit is used, carbondeposits build up
on the muffler and spark arresting screen,
andmust be removedto avoidcreating afire
hazard or affecting engine performance.
Replacethespark arrestingscreen ifbreaks
occur.
CLEANING THE SPARK ARREST-
ING SCREEN
Cleaning is required every 25 hours of op-
eration or annually, whichever comes first.

Inspect the muffler gasket andreplace if
damaged.
Reinstall backplate,outlet guide,muffler
gasket, and muffler using muffler bolts.
Tighten until secure.

Reinstall boltcover andlocknut. Tighten
securely.
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
WARNING:
The chain will be mov-
ing duringmostof this procedure.Wearyour
protective equipment and observe all safety
precautions.Thechain mustnotmoveatidle
speed.
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments may be necessary if
you notice any of the following conditions:

Allow engine to idle. If the chain moves, idle
is toofast. Iftheenginestalls, idleis tooslow.
Adjust speed until engineruns without chain
movement (idle too fast) or stalling (idle too
slow). Theidle speedscrew is located in the
area above the primer bulb and is labeled T.
