On many cutting unit designs, the bedknife attitude
and behind center distance change as the reel wears
and its diameter get smaller. This can result in a
deteriorating quality of cut, and poor after-cut
appearance, including miss-match between cutting
units.
Here is a close up view of the problem. Note the
bedknife angle and behind center distance. This
illustrates how the quality of cut can deteriorate,
when the bedknife angle and behind center distance
change as the reel wears.
