Remove blade nut, mulch fan and blade. See
BLADE REMOVAL section.

Rotate crankshaft slowly until piston covers
exhaust port (Fig. 38).
Remove blade driver by tapping with plastic or
fiber hammer in the direction of rotation
(Fig. 37). This will loosen the blade driver from
taper on crankshaft.
10. Using a wooden dowel, loosen carbon deposits
by inserting dowel into port.
Note:
Do not use metal tools; they could
scratch piston.

Set mower upright.

Hold blade control bail against upper handle
(Fig. 39) and pull starter rope several times to
blow out loose carbon.

Remove (4) capscrews attaching cover plate to
engine mounting plate (Fig. 38).

Remove the sealant located under the cover plate

Run a bead of high temperature, automotive
silicone sealant along the edge of the engine
mounting plate where the cover plate will rest
(Fig. 38).

Reinstall transfer pipe and cover plate (Fig. 38),
torquing the (4) capscrews to 75 in lbs

(8.5
N·m).
Attach blade driver, blade and mulch fan with
blade nut. See BLADE INSTALLATION.
