Loosen and remove the 2 muffler bolts.
Removethemuffler andbackplates. No-
tice the orientation of these parts for re-
assembling.
CAUTION: Do not clean filter in gasoline
or other flammable solvent to avoid creating
a fire hazard or producing harmful evapora-
tive emissions.
Locate the 2 outlet cover screws on the
muffler.
Loosen and remove both
Cleaning the air filter:
screws. Remove the outlet cover and
spark arresting screen.
A dirty air filter decreases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmful emissions. Always clean after 15
tanks of fuel or 5 hours of operation, which-
ever comes first. Clean more frequently in
dusty conditions. A usedairefilter cannever
be completely cleaned. It is advisable to re-
placeyour airfilter withanewoneafterevery

Loosen 3 screws on cylinder cover.
Remove cylinder cover.

Clean the spark arresting screen with a
wire brush. Replace screen if any wires
are broken or screen is blocked after
cleaning.
Reinstall spark arresting screen.
Reinstall outlet cover and 2 screws. En-
sureoutletcoverandbothscrews arere-
installed correctly to prevent damage to
the saw (see illustrations). The exhaust
outlets must face the chain brake (bar
side) of the saw.
Remove air filter.
Clean the air filter usinghot soapy water.
Rinsewithcleancoolwater. Air drycom-
pletely before reinstalling.
Reinstall air filter.
Reinstall cylinder cover and 3 screws.
TIghten securely.

Inspect the muffler gasket and replace if
damaged.
As the unit is used, carbon deposits build up
on the muffler and spark arresting screen,
and must be removedto avoidcreating afire
hazard or affecting engine performance.
Replacethespark arrestingscreen ifbreaks
occur.
10. Reinstall backplates, muffler gasket and
muffler using muffler bolts. TIghten until
secure.
11. Reinstall bolt cover and locknut.
12. Reinstall the spark plug boot.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS
Clean every 25 hours of operation or annually,
whichever comes first.

The chain will be mov-
ing during mostof this procedure. Wear your
protective equipment and observe all safety

speed.

The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments may be necessary if
you notice any of the following conditions:

Allow engine to idle. If the chain moves, idle
istoofast. Iftheenginestalls,idleis tooslow.
Adjust speed until engine runs without chain
movement (idle too fast) or stalling (idle too
slow).

Loosen and remove the 3 cylinder cover
screws. Remove the cylinder cover.
Pull off the spark plug boot.
Loosen and remove the locknut from the
bolt cover. Remove the bolt cover.

S Turn idle speed screw (T) clockwise to in-
crease engine speed.
