Checking the Spark Plug
Standard setting
If engine is down on power, difficult
to start or runs poorly at idling speed,
first check the spark plug.
:
Check the air filter and replace if
necessary.
Start and warm up the engine.
:
Remove spark plug as discribed
:
:
in chapter “Starting“
Carefully screw the idle speed
screw (LD) down onto its seat
counterclockwise(left-handthread).
Then open it two full turns clockwise
(standard setting).
:
:
Clean dirty spark plug.
Check electrode gap (A) -
it should be 0.5mm/0.02" -
readjust if necessary.
:
Use only resistor type spark plugs
of the approved range.
Adjusting idle speed
Engine stops when engine is idling:
Rectify problems which have caused
fouling of spark plug:
Carry out standard setting
(open the LD screw two full turns)
:
:
:
Too much oil in fuel mix.
Dirty air filter.
:
Rotate idle speed screw (LD) about
one half turn clockwise until the
engine runs smoothly.
Unfavorable running conditions,
Wrong fuel mix (too much engine oil in
the gasoline), a dirty air filter and
e.g. operating at part load.
Fit a new spark plug after approx. 100
operating hours
or earlier if the electrodes are badly
eroded.
Erratic idling behavior, poor
acceleration:
unfavorable running conditions (mostly
at part throttle etc.) affect the condition of
the spark plug. These factors cause
deposits to form on the insulator nose
which may result in trouble in operation.
Carry out standard setting
(open the LD screw two full turns)
:
Rotate idle speed screw (LD) about
one half turn counterclockwise.
