Check the tension by lifting the chain
from the guide bar. Remove some of
the stiffness in the chain by pulling
downandlettinggoofthe chainsever-
al times.
Continue turning the adjusting screw
until the tension is correct(see step 4).
Tighten bar clamp nuts with a wrench.
Recheck chain tension.

Burring of guide bar rails is a normal
process of rail wear. Remove these
burrs with a flat file.
When rail top is uneven, use a flat file to
restore square edges and sides.

WARNING: If the saw is operated

Correct Groove
with a loose chain, the chain could jump
off the guide bar and resultin serious in-
jury.
Replace the guide bar when the groove is
worn,the guide baris bentor crack--ed,or
whenexcessheatingorburringoftherails
occurs. If replacement is necessary, use
onlytheguidebarspecifiedforyoursawin
the repairparts listor on the decal located
on the chain saw.
CHECK CHAIN SHARPNESS
A sharp chain makes wood chips. A dull
chain makes a sawdust powder and cuts
slowly. See CHAIN SHARPENING in the
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS section.

Conditions which require guide bar main-
tenance:
S Saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
S Saw has to be forced through the cut.
S Inadequate supply of oil to the bar and
chain.
S
Check bar and chain oil before use and
every 15 minutes while operating the
saw.See GUIDEBAR ANDCHAIN OILun-
der the OPERATION section.
Check the condition of the guide bar each
time the chainis sharpened.A wornguide
bar will damage the chain and make cut-
ting difficult.
After each use, with unit disconnected
frompowersource,cleanallsawdustfrom
the guide bar and sprocket hole.
To maintain guide bar:

S Aftereachuse,inspectcomplete unitfor
loose or damaged parts. Clean the unit
and labels using a damp cloth with a
mild detergent.
S Disconnectthechainsawfrom thepow-
er source.
S Loosen and remove bar clamp nuts.

S Wipe off the unit and labels with a clean
dry cloth.

CHAIN REPLACEMENT
Chain sharpening requires special tools.
You can purchase sharpening tools at an
authorized service dealer or go to a pro-
fessional chain sharpener.
WARNING:
Wear
protective
gloves when handling chain. The chain
is sharp and can cut you even when it is
not moving.
WARNING: Avoid accidental start-
ing. Always unplug saw from power
source before installing a bar and/or
chain.
