Winter Operation
Chain brake maintenance
At temperatures below 50 °F,

At temperatures above 68 °F:
Return the shutter to the summer
position (s).
preheat the carburetor as follows:
The chain brake is subject to normal
wear and tear. It must therefore be
checked and serviced regularly by
trained personnel (e.g. STIHL dealer) at
the following intervals:
This is essential to avoid engine
running problems and overheating.
At temperatures below 14°F

It is advisable to use the cover plate
mounting kit (special accessory) in
extremely cold operating conditions
(temperatures below 14 °F, in powder or
drifting snow).

setting of the idle speed screw (LA)
after making adjustments to the low

Fit the shutter in the winter position
(

illustration.
Heated air from around the cylinder now
flows around the carburetor – this helps
prevent carburetor icing.
