Clean them more often if you operate in dusty or
dirty conditions. Replace both elements if they are
excessively dirty of damaged.

without the air cleaner elements installed
otherwise extreme engine wear  and
damage will result.
To clean the elements, complete the following:
ServicingtheSparkPlug
1.
Stop the engine and pull the wire off of the
spark plug.
Check the spark plug after every 100 operating
hours or yearly whichever comes first. Ensure that
the air gap between the center and side electrodes
is correct before installing the spark plug. Use a
spark plug wrench for removing and installing
the spark plug and a gapping tool/feeler gauge to
check and adjust the air gap. Install a new spark
plug if necessary.

Clean the area around the spark plug.

CheckingtheSparkPlug
1.  Look at the center of the spark plug (Figure 30).
If you see light brown or gray on the insulator,
the engine is operating properly.  A black
coating on the insulator usually means the air
cleaner is dirty.

element.
Important: Never clean the spark plug.
Always replace the spark plug when it has
a black coating, worn electrodes, an oily
film, or cracks.
