Gas & Oil Fill-Up
6.  Astheenginewarms,  slowlyrotatethechokecontrol
totheOFFposition.  If theenginefalters, quicklyrotate
thechokecontrol backtoFULLandthenslowlyinto
theOFFpositionagain.
Servicetheenginewithgasolineandoil   asinstructedin
theTecumsehEnginesmanual  packedseparatelywith
your snowthrower. Readinstructionscarefully.
StartingTheEngine
Attachsparkplugwiretosparkplug.   Makecertainthe
metal loopontheendof  thesparkplugwire(inside
therubber boot) isfastenedsecurelyover  themetal
tiponthesparkplug.

Whendisconnectingtheextensioncord,  always
unplugtheendat  thethree-prongwall  outlet before
unpluggingtheoppositeendfromthesnowthrower.

Recoil Starter
1.
Rotatechokecontrol toFULLchokeposition(cold
enginestart).
Read, understand,
andfollowall instruc-
tionsandwarnings
onthemachineand
inthismanual before
operating.
2.  Makecertainboththeauger  control anddrivecontrol
areinthedisengaged(released)  position.
3.  Movethrottlecontrol uptoFASTposition.  Insert
ignitionkeyintoslot.  Makesureit  snapsintoplace.
Donot attempt toturnthekey.
NOTE: If theengineisalreadywarm,  placechokecontrol
intheOFFpositioninsteadof   FULL.

Pushtheprimer twoor threetimesfor  coldengine
start, makingsuretocover  vent holeinthecenter of
theprimer whenpushing.
NOTE: Theenginecannot start unlessthekeyis
insertedintoignitionswitch.
Useextremecare
whenhandling
NOTE: DONOTuseprimer torestart awarmengine
after ashort shutdown.
Electric Starter
1.
Determinethat your home’swiringisathree-wire
groundedsystem. Askalicensedelectricianif   youare
not certain.
gasoline. Gasolineis
extremelyflammable
andthevaporsare
explosive.Neverfuel
themachineindoors
orwhiletheengine
ishot orrunning.
Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars, pipesand
othersourcesof
ignition.
NOTE: Additional primingmaybenecessaryif  the
temperatureisbelow15°Fahrenheit.
WARNING: Theoptional electric
starterisequippedwitha

Grasptherecoil starter handleandslowlypull  the
ropeout. At thepoint whereit becomesslightlyharder
topull therope, slowlyallowtheropetorecoil.

releasethehandleandallowit   tosnapback. Keepa
firmholdonthestarter  handleandallowit  toslowly
recoil.
5.  Astheenginewarms,  slowlyrotatethechokecontrol
totheOFFposition.  If theenginefalters, quicklyrotate
thechokecontrol backtotheFULLpositionandthen
slowlyintotheOFFpositionagain.
If yourhome’s
wiringsystemisnot  a
three-wiregrounded
system, donot use
thiselectricstarter
underanyconditions.
NOTE: Allowtheenginetowarmupfor  afewminutes
after starting. Theenginewill not developfull power until
it reachesoperatingtemperatures.
If youhaveagroundedthree-prongreceptacle,  proceed
asfollows:
1.
Plugtheextensioncordintotheoutlet   locatedonthe
engine’ssurface. Plugtheother  endof extensioncord
intoathree-prong120-volt,  grounded, ACoutlet ina
well-ventilatedarea.
Stopping The Engine
Runenginefor afewminutesbeforestoppingtohelpdry
off anymoistureontheengine.
2.
Rotatechokecontrol toFULLchokeposition(for   a
coldenginestart).
Tohelpprevent possiblestarter  freeze-up, proceedas
follows:
If yourhome
electrical system
isgrounded, but a
three-holereceptacle
isnot available, do
not useyoursnow
thrower’selectric
starter.
NOTE:If theengineisalreadywarm,   placechokecontrol
intheOFFpositioninsteadof   FULL.
Electric Starter
1.  Connect extensioncordtotheelectricstarter  outlet
ontheengine, thento120volt  ACoutlet.
3.  Pushtheprimer twoor threetimesfor  coldengine
start, makingsuretocover  vent holeinthecenter of
theprimer whenpushing.
2.  Withtheenginerunning,  pushthestarter buttonand
allowthestarter for spinfor several seconds. The
noisemadebythestarter  isnormal.  Theengine’s
starter isnot beingharmed.
NOTE: DONOTuseprimer torestart awarmengine
after ashort shutdown.

Whendisconnectingtheextensioncord,  always
unplugtheendat  thethree-prongwall  outlet before
unpluggingtheoppositeendfromthesnowthrower.

Pushstarter buttontostart  engine.
Oncetheenginestarts,  releasestarter button.
