Maintaining
Your Snow
Thrower
Friction Wheel Removal

If thesnowthrower failstodrivewiththedrivecontrol
engaged, andperformingthedrivecontrol  cableadjust-
ment onpage14failstocorrect   theproblem, thefriction
wheel mayneedtobereplaced.  Followtheinstructions
below. Examinethefrictionwheel  for signsof wear or
crackingandreplaceif  necessary
Placetheshift lever inthirdForward(F3)  position.
Drainthegasolinefromthesnowthrower,   or placea
pieceof plasticunder thegascap.
Carefullypivot thesnowthrower upandforwardso
that it restsontheauger housing.

a. Removetheframecover  fromtheundersideof
thesnowthrower byremovingfour  self-tapping
screwswhichsecureit.
b. Removetheright-handwheel  byremovingthe
screwandbell washer whichsecureit  totheaxle.
Carefullyremovethehexnut  andwasher  which
securesthehexshaft  tothesnowthrower  frameand
lightlytaptheshaft’sendtodislodgetheball    bearing
fromtheright sideof theframe.

Whenreassembling
thefrictionwheel as-
sembly, tighteneach
screwonlyonerota-
tionbeforeturningthe
wheel clockwiseand
proceedingwiththe
next screw. Repeat
thisprocessseveral
timestoensurethe
platesaresecured
withequal force.

Carefullypositionthehexshaft  downwardandto
theleft beforecarefullyslidingthefrictionwheel
assemblyoff theshaft.
NOTE: If you’rereplacingthefrictionwheel  assembly
asawhole, discardthewornpart   andslidethenewpart
ontothehexshaft.  Followthestepsaboveinreverse
order toreassemblecomponents. If you’redisassem-
blingthefrictionwheel  andreplacingonlytherubber
ring, proceedasfollows:

Removethefour screwswhichsecurethefriction
wheel’ssideplatestogether.
Removetherubber ringfrombetweentheplates.
Reassemblethesideplateswithanewrubber    ring.
Slidethefrictionwheel  assemblybackontothehex
shaft andfollowthestepsaboveinreverseorder   to
reassemblecomponents.
NEVER replace
the auger shear
pins with anything
other than OEM

pins. Any damage to
the auger gearbox
or other components
as a result of failing
to do so will NOT be
covered by your snow
thrower’s warranty.
