Alternators can be tested on the machine, on a
alternator test bench, or disassembled and the
components tested.

Rotor
The
continuity, connect the ohmmeter leads to both
slipper rings.

be
checked
for
The rotor should be checked for shorts between the
windings and the housing. Connect the ohmmeter
leads to one slipper ring and the rotor housing.
Stator
The stator should be checked for continuity,
connect the ohmmeter to the stator windings.
