The stator should be checked for shorts, connect
the ohmmeter to the stator windings and the
housing.

Ignition coils
Description
Device that increases battery voltage to the level
required to fire the spark plugs.
Testing
The coils can be tested with an Ohmmeter. You
should have continuity between the + and the -
posts and also between the center post and the
+
& - posts
Diodes

Description
Electrical device that allows current to flow in one
direction but not the other.
Testing
Diodes can be checked with an Ohmmeter. The
meter should show continuity in one direction and
open in the other direction. Diodes should be
checked with a DVOM with a diode test function.
