dipstick. Refer to Filling the Crankcase with Oil on

Recycle the used oil according to local codes.

Note: You will need a 3/8-inch ratchet extension to perform
this procedure.

Maintaining the Blade
The blade is sharp; contacting the blade can result
in serious personal injury.
A straight, sharp blade provides the best cutting
performance. Regularly inspect and sharpen the blade.
Wear gloves or wrap the sharp edges of the blade
with a rag.

Disconnect the wire from the spark plug (Fig. 11).

Drain the gasoline from the fuel tank; refer to steps 3
and 4 of Emptying the Fuel Tank on page 21.

with a rag.

Tip the lawn mower onto its left side and secure it to
prevent it from falling.

Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
Disconnect the wire from the spark plug (Fig. 11).

Place a drain pan under the lawn mower.
Remove the oil drain plug, return the lawn mower to its
operating position, and allow the oil to drain into the
drain pan (Fig 20).
Warning
Note: Avoid spilling the oil on the belt.
Tipping the lawn mower may cause the fuel to leak
from the carburetor or the fuel tank. Gasoline is
extremely flammable, highly explosive and under
certain conditions can cause personal injury or
property damage.
Important
You may need to move the blade to get to
the oil drain plug. Move the blade as little as possible to
avoid future starting problems.

Avoid fuel spills by running the engine dry or
removing gasoline with a hand pump; never
siphon.
