SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
WARNING: AVOID INJURY. Read and
understand the entire Safety section before
proceeding.

SCRAPER BLADE
IMPORTANT: Damage to auger/impeller housing will
result if blade wears down too far.
2
Scraper blade is adjustable to compensate for wear.
To adjust scraper blade:

For Replacement:
Reposition scraper blade flush with runners and
tighten lock nuts.
1. Align shear bolt holes in auger with shear bolt
holes in the shaft.
RUNNERS
2.
Drive shear bolt through hole (if shear bolt was
broken this will drive remaining part from shaft).
Runners should be adjusted as conditions require
(Figure 22).
3.
Secure shear bolt with nut.
1.
2.
Position unit on a hard, flat, smooth level surface.
HANDLEBAR HEIGHT
Adjust runners by inserting a spacer of desired
thickness under center of scraper blade, loosen
runner hardware, slide runners to flat surface.
Allow 1/8 in. (3 mm) between scraper blade and
hard smooth surfaces. Allow 1-1/4 in. (30 mm)
between scraper blade and uneven or gravel
surfaces. Retighten hardware.
CAUTION: AVOID INJURY. Adjust the
attachment clutch, speed selector and
traction clutch after changing the handlebar
height. See Attachment Clutch/Brake
Adjustment on page 24, Speed Selector
Adjustment on page 24 and Traction Drive
Clutch Adjustment on page 27.
NOTE: Keep housing level by adjusting runners
equally.
To raise or lower the handlebar:
1.
Remove hair pin holding chute rod to control
assembly.
2.
Place unit in service position (see Service
Position on page 19).
3.

SHEAR BOLTS
IMPORTANT: Use only Ariens shear bolts for
replacement. Use of any other type of shear bolt may
result in severe damage to unit. See SERVICE PARTS
on page 30.
Occasionally a foreign object may enter the
auger/impeller housing and jam the auger, breaking
shear bolts (Figure 23) which secure the auger to the
shaft. This allows auger to turn freely on the shaft
preventing damage to gear drive.
