Gasoline spoils very quickly depending on factors such as light

exposure,temperatureandtime.

Inworstcases,gasolinecanbecontaminatedwithin30days.

Using contaminated gasoline can seriously damage the engine

(cloggedcarburetor,stuckvalve).

Suchdamageduetospoiledfuelisdisallowedfromcoveragebythe

warranty.

Toavoidthispleasestrictlyfollowtheserecommendations:

Onlyusespecifiedgasoline.

Usefreshandcleangasoline.

Toslowdeterioration,keepgasolineinacertifiedfuelcontainer.

Iflongstorage(morethan30days)isforeseen,drainfueltankand

carburetor(seepage59).

Don’tletsnowgetinthefueltank.Waterinthefuelsystemcancause

stallinganddifficultstarting.

GASOLINESCONTAININGALCOHOL

Ifyoudecidetouseagasolinecontainingalcohol(gasohol),besureits

octaneratingisatleastashighasthatrecommendedbyHonda.There

are two types of ‘‘gasohol’’: one containing ethanol, and the other

containingmethanol.Donotusegasoholthatcontainsmorethan10

ethanol.Donotusegasolinecontainingmethanol(methylorwood

alcohol)thatdoesnotalsocontaincosolventsandcorrosioninhibitors

formethanol.Neverusegasolinecontainingmorethan5%methanol,

evenifithascosolventsandcorrosioninhibitors.

Fuel system damage or engine performance problems resulting

fromtheuseof fuelsthatcontainalcoholisnotcovered underthe

warranty. Honda cannot endorse the use of fuels containing

methanolsinceevidenceoftheirsuitabilityisasyetincomplete.

Before buying fuel from an unfamiliar station, try to find out if the

fuelcontainsalcohol,ifitdoes,confirmthetypeandpercentageof

alcohol used. If you notice any undesirable operating symptoms

while using a gasoline that contains alcohol, or one that you think

contains alcohol, switch to a gasoline that you know does not

containalcohol.
