Toro® RM5000 Series Preventative Maintenance
Checking and adjusting reel bearings
33
The reel bearing adjustment should be checked to maintain the proper bearing
adjustment.
Begin by adjusting the bedknife so it is not in contact with the reel.
Remove the cover from the counterweight. Check the rolling torque with a torque
wrench and a 9/16 inch socket
The rolling torque should be 4 to 7 in. lbs.
If the rolling torque is incorrect, remove the counterbalance weight. Lock the reel with a
piece of wood. Remove the reel bearing adjusting nut. This requires a 1 1/4 inch
socket.
After removing the nut, tap on the head of the small hex bolt with a small hammer, until
endplay of the reel can be felt.
Slowly tighten the reel bearing adjusting nut until no endplay is felt.
Recheck the rolling torque with the torque wrench and 9/16" socket.
Adjust nut until the rolling torque of the reel is 4 to 7 in. lbs.
