Toro® RM5000 Series Preventative Maintenance
Checking and adjusting reel bearings
49
The reel bearing adjustment should be checked to maintain the proper bearing
adjustment.
Begin by adjusting the bedknife so it is not in contact with the reel.
Check the reel for endplay. The cutting unit should be set up so the reel does not have
endplay
If endplay is found the reel bearing must be adjusted.
Loosen the set screw that secures the bearing adjusting nut, located on the left side of
the cutting unit.
Use a spanner wrench and tighten the adjustment nut until no end play is felt.
Retighten the set screw to secure the adjusting nut.
NOTE: Reel bearing DO NOT require pre-load. Over tightening the reel bearing adjuster
nut will damage the reel bearings.
