Toro® RM 5000 Series Preventative Maintenance
Backlapping Cutting Units
To insure the highest quality of cut, the cutting units should be backlapped to maintain a
sharp cutting edge.
When backlapping the cutting units on a RM5100 or RM5300, the H.O.C. selector
should be set to "P" while the cutting units are being backlapped.
NOTE: Backlapping speed can be increased by moving the H.O.C. knob toward the "A"
position. Each position will increase the speed approx. 60 RPM. After changing the
speed, wait 30 seconds for the system to respond to the new speed target.
When backlapping the cutting units on a RM5200 or RM5400, the reel speed selector
should be set to position 1 while the cutting units are being backlapped. The speed
selector for the cutting units not being backlapped should be set at 11.
NOTE: Backlapping speed can be increased by moving the reel speed selector knob to
a higher number.
IMPORTANT: If the backlap switch is not returned to the off position after
backlapping, the cutting units will not raise or function properly.
