Wiring Repairs
Toro recommends the use of sealed connections when
making wiring repairs on turf  maintenance equipment,
especially  machines  with  electronic  controllers.  Be-
cause of  the severe  conditions that  turf maintenance
equipment operate in,  resistance to corrosion and the
durability of the connection are very important.

Heat shrink, solderless crimp connectors, such as Alpha
Fit–Crimp, Molex–BTC Perma–Seal, and 3M Scotchlok
have many advantages:
Butt joint
(to complete, heat

pliers squeeze butt
joint closed)
Fast, positive connection with hand actuated tools.
Built–in strain relief.
Few tools required.
Sleeve and connector in one assembly.
Double walled sleeve seals out corrosion.
Greatly enhanced strain relief over standard crimp splices.
Do not put 3 or more
wires together at one
side of the splice be-
cause the sealer may

middle of the wires.
The splices are made of heat shrinking nylon tubing with
a sealer coating the inner wall. To install, crimp the wires
first with the proper tool, then use a heat gun to seal the
splice. You  must make  sure you  have a  good crimp,
since this will assure a strong durable splice. When this
splice is made using a good crimper and heat gun, the
repair will be stronger than the wire itself.
1.
Strip wires and insert into splice connector.
2.
Crimp with special tool.
3.
Heat splice with heat gun to seal.
Keep Electrical Connections Dry
Be  careful  when   washing  the  machine.  Use  com-
pressed air, not water, to clean under control panels or
other areas  where  electrical connections  can remain
wet and cause corrosion.
A special non–conductive grease is available to protect
exposed  electrical connections.  This grease  forms  a
light protective skin to help make electrical switches and
contacts water resistant.
