GROUNDSMASTER 455: Wing Decks Break Away Easily
If a wing deck does not latch properly when lowered, the
deck may break away easily (i.e., while moving forward
on level ground or if an undulation is encountered). The
most common cause for this occurrence is debris get-
ting packed into or around the latch assembly. To correct
this problem periodically clean the area with com-
pressed air and lightly lubricate the latch mechanism
and tension spring.
GROUNDSMASTER 455: Wing Clutch Bearings
The electric clutches on the wing decks generate heat
during operation. If the area under the deck covers is
washed with water immediately after operating, the
clutches and idler pulleys cool down at a fast rate, which
can cause water to get pulled past the seals into the
bearings. This can cause early bearing failure in the
clutches and idler pulleys. It is suggested that the inside
area under the deck covers be cleaned with com-
pressed air instead of water.
GROUNDSMASTER 580: Drive Shaft Lubrication
The hydraulic transmission drive shaft has three (3)
grease fittings that require lubrication every 50 hours of
operation. Use No. 2 general purpose lithium or molyb-
denum base grease. Failure to lubricate regularly can
cause drive shaft failure resulting in oil cooler, radiator
and engine crankshaft damage.
