BELT ADJUSTMENT
Traction Drive Belt
The traction drive belt has constant spring pressure and does not require
an adjustment. If the traction drive belt is slipping, replace the belt. See au-
thorized dealer.
Auger Drive Belt
If your snowthrower will not discharge snow, check the control cable adjust-
ment. If it is correct, then check the condition of the auger drive belt. If it is
damaged or loose, replace it (see authorized dealer).
Auger Drive Belt Adjustment:

Disconnect spark plug wire.
Remove screw (A, Figure 29) from belt cover (B). Remove belt cover.

. Loosen nut on idler drive pulley (A, Figure 30) and move idler drive
pulley towards belt about 1/8 inch (3 mm).

WARNING: Do not over-tighten, as this may lift the
lever and cause the auger drive to be engaged without
depressing the auger control.

Tighten nut.
With the aid of an assistant, engage the auger drive clutch. Check ten-
sion on belt which is opposite idler pulley (B, Figure 30). Belt should
deflect about 1/2 inch (12.5 mm) with moderate pressure. You may
have to move idler pulley more than once to obtain the correct ten-
sion.

Reinstall belt cover (B, Figure 29). Tighten screw (A).
Attach the spark plug wire.

NOTE: Whenever belts are adjusted or replaced, the cables will need to be
adjusted (see “Check and Adjust the Cables” section).
Check Auger Drive Belt:
1.
Release the auger control lever. The auger must stop within 5 sec-
onds.

If auger does not operate properly, stop engine and repeat “Auger
Drive Belt Adjustment.”

BELT GUIDE ADJUSTMENT

Remove spark plug wire.
Have someone engage the auger drive. This will engage auger idler
pulley (A, Figure 31).
Measure the distance between the belt guide (B) and belt (C). The
distance should be about 1/8 inch (3 mm).
If adjustment is necessary, loosen belt guide mounting bolt. Move
belt guide to the correct position. Tighten mounting bolt.
