Charge the battery following the manufacturer’s
Battery Storage
instructions.
If the vehicle will be stored for more than 30 days, re-
move the battery and charge it fully. Either store it on the
shelf or on the vehicle. Leave the cables disconnected
if it is stored on the vehicle. Store the battery in a cool
atmosphere to avoid quick deterioration of the charge in
the battery. To prevent the battery from freezing, make
sure it is fully charged.
5.
Occasionally check the temperature of the battery
electrolyte. If the temperature exceeds 125 F (51.6 C)
o
or the electrolyte is violently gassing or spewing, the
charging rate must be lowered or temporarily stopped.
o
6.
Three hours prior to the end of the charging, mea-
sure the specific gravity of a battery cell once per hour.
The battery is fully charged when the cells are gassing
freely at a low charging rate and there is less than a
0.003
change in specific gravity for three consecutive
readings.
