Removal (Fig. 23)
Park the machine on a level surface, engage the
parking brake, and stop the engine. Remove the key
from the ignition switch.
2. Position shaft end of cylinder to the steering pivot.
Install flat washer and slotted hex nut finger tight to rod
end.

3. Position barrel end of cylinder to the frame. Install
slotted hex nut finger tight to barrel rod end.

Lower the engine mounting plate assembly from ma-
chine (see Engine Mounting Plate Assembly Removal
in Service and Repairs Section of Chapter 3 – Kohler
Gasoline Engine).
4. Tighten slotted hex nuts to secure cylinder rod ends.
Install cotter pins.

Remove caps and plugs from disconnected hoses

Remove cotter pin and hex slotted nut that secure
the barrel end of the steering cylinder to the frame.

Remove cotter pin, flat washer, and hex slotted nut
that secure the shaft end of the steering cylinder to the
steering pivot.

Remove steering cylinder from machine.

If rod end is removed from cylinder shaft, count num-
ber of revolutions it takes to remove from shaft so rod
end can be re–installed without affecting steering.

If rod end was removed from cylinder shaft, apply

anti–seize lubricant to threads of rod end. Install rod end
onto shaft the same number of revolutions needed to re-
move rod end. Secure rod end with jam nut.
