Park mower on a level  surface. Make sure engine
is OFF. Remove high tension lead from the spark plug.

Loosen jam nut and set screw on both ends of the
mower.

On one end of the mower, remove lock nut and flat
washer from the carriage screw.

Do not adjust the height–of–cut screw when re-

moving the height–of cut arm.

Pull the height–of–cut arm from the roller shaft, car-

riage screw,  and  height–of–cut bracket.  Remove the
roller from the mower.

Remove Bearings
Note:
Use the bearing replacement tool kit, described
in the Special Tools section, to remove the roller  bear-
ings.
Note:
It is recommended to replace bearings at both
ends of the roller after bearing failure.

If a hole is not on the bearing shaft, use drill bushing

Remove roller bearing with bearing puller.

Clean roller bearing cavity and remove any rust with
crocus cloth.

Press roller  bearing into roller  so that the outside
surface of the bearing is flush with the end of the roller.

Repeat above steps for the other roller bearing.

Grease the bearing with No. 2 multipurpose lithium
Install New Bearings

Make sure roller bearing cavity is clean and free of
dirt. Apply No. 2 multipurpose  lithium based grease to
the roller bearing.

Repeat above steps for the other roller bearing.
