Cutting Blade Removal and Installation
Thecutting blademust bereplaced ifasolid object ishit,
thebladeis outofbalance,or ifthe bladeis bent.Always
use genuine TORO replacement blades to be sure of
safety and optimum performance. Never use replace-
ment blades made by other manufacturers because
they could be dangerous.

Inspecting and Sharpening Blade

Park machine on a level surface, raise cutting units
higher than the heel, the blade is bent or warped, and
must be replaced.
to highest position, stop engine, engage parking brake,
and remove key from the ignition switch. Block cutting
deck to prevent it from falling accidentally.
WARNING
Do not try to straighten a blade that is bent.
Never weld a broken or cracked blade. Always
use a new blade to assure continued safety
certification of the product.

Examine cutting ends of the blade carefully, espe-
cially where the flat and curved (sail) parts of the blade
meet (Fig. 11). Since sand and abrasive material can
wear away the metal that connects the flat part and sail
of the blade, check the blade before using the machine.
If wear is noticed, replace the blade.

Inspect cutting edges of all blades. Sharpen the cut-
ting edges if they are dulled or nicked. Sharpen only the
top of the cutting edge and maintain the original cutting
angletomakesureofsharpness(Fig.12).Thebladewill
remain balanced if the same amount of metal is re-
moved from both cutting edges.

To check blade for being straight and parallel, re-
moveblade(seeCutterBladeRemovalandInstallation)
and lay it on a level surface. The ends of the blade must
be slightly lower than the center and the cutting edge
must be lower than the heel of the blade. If the blade is
higher at the ends than the center, or if cutting edge is
