NOTE: Over a period of time, a reel motor can wear in-
ternally. A worn motor may by−pass oil to its case drain
causing the motor to be less efficient. Eventually,
enough oil loss will cause the reel motor to stall under
heavy cutting conditions. Continued operation with a
worn, inefficient motor can generate excessive heat,
cause damage to seals and other components in the hy-
draulic system, and affect quality of cut.
NOTE: One way to find a possibly bad reel motor is to
have another person observe the machine while mow-
ing in dense turf. A bad motor will run slower, produce
fewer clippings, and may cause marcelling (or a wash-
board appearance) on the turf.
NOTE: On machines with Serial Numbers below
230000000,
the initial reel motor in the cutting circuit is
the left front and the final reel motor drives the rear cut-
ting unit. On machines with Serial Numbers above
230000000,
the initial motor is the rear reel motor and
the final reel motor is the left front.
