countershaft end play. Rotate one of the
axleshafts back andforthtotakeup allback lash.Rotat-
ing the shaft in one direction will pull the shaft and bear-
ing away from the snap ring. Rotate axle shaft in this
direction, then measure space between the snap ring
and shim (set) with afeeler gauge. Make sure shim (set)
is held against the bearing during the measurement.
Endplayshouldbefrom0.000to0.0039in.(0.00to0.10
mm) (Fig. 97).
IMPORTANT: If end play is too large, replace shim/
shim set (item 2 in steps 21 and 22) with thicker
shims to reduce endplay.
