Removal (Fig. 28)
Park themachine onalevelsurface, engage parking
brake, lower cutting deck (or implement) and stop en-
gine. Remove key from the ignition switch.
11.Remove and discard gasket (item 9). Clean gasket
surfaces of transmission and front axle.

12.If necessary, remove hydraulic fittings from trans-
mission. Note orientation of fittings for assembly pur-
poses.

To prevent contamination of the hydraulic system,
thoroughly clean transmission and front axle.
13.Remove and discard all o--rings from removed hy-
draulic hoses and fittings.
CAUTION
IMPORTANT: Pump lever is secured to transmis-
sion shaft with Loctite #680 Retaining Compound in
addition to cap screws and lock nuts. Use puller to
remove pump lever from transmission. To prevent
transmission damage, do not strike lever with ham-
mer during removal.
Operate all hydraulic controls to relieve system
pressure and avoid injury from pressurized hy-
draulic oil.

lever from transmission shaft.

Label hydraulic hoses to assist in assembly. Discon-
nect all hydraulic hoses from the transmission assem-
bly. Allow hoses to drain into a suitable container. Plug
or cap openings of transmission and hoses to prevent
contamination.
Installation (Fig. 28)
1.
Coat new hydraulic fitting o--rings lightly with clean

mission. Orientate the fittings as noted during disas-
sembly.

away from transmission.

pound (or equivalent) to pump shaft. Slide pump lever
onto shaft and secure with two (2) cap screws and lock
nuts.

move traction rod from lever.
3. Apply non--hardeninggasket sealant toboth sides of
gasket (item 9). Position gasket to front axle gasket sur-
face.

Label location of wires attached to neutral switch.
Disconnect wires from switch and position away from
transmission.
4. Carefully position transmission to front axle taking
care not to move or damage gasket. Make sure that
transmission and axle gears mesh properly.
8.
Remove lock nut (item 11) that secures transmission
to transmission anchor (item 12).
IMPORTANT: During assembly, make sure that up-
perleftscrew(item1)extends throughholeintrans-
mission anchor (item 12).
CAUTION

Apply Loctite #242 (or equivalent) to threads of cap
screws (items 1 and 2). Secure transmission to front
axle with cap screws, washers (items 3 and 4) and
spacers(items5and6)usinglocationsnotedduringdis-
assembly. Tighten cap screws in a crossing pattern. Af-
ter tightening, make surethatmounting spacers (item6)
do not rotate.
Support transmission when removing it from the
front axle to prevent it from falling and causing
personal injury.
